Phoniatric and speech therapy intervention for people with voice disorders

The thesis was written in the Speech therapy field of study. Thesis deals with the topic of voice disorders and the mutual cooperation between speech therapists and phoniatrists in this area. The starting point of the theoretical part of the thesis is the definition of the fields of speech therapy and phoniatry. Then the theoretical part deals with voice disorders and the definition of voice. The last chapter of the theoretical part is devoted to the area of diagnosis, therapy and prevention of voice disorders. The goal of the practical part of the thesis was to find out, with the use of the information and knowledge from the theoretical part, how the cooperation between speech therapists and phoniatrists works, to analyse the procedures used for diagnosis and treatment of people with voice disorders and to reveal what other possibilities of cooperation between speech therapists and phoniatrists could be exploited. To achieve the goals of the research investigation, qualitative research was conducted with six respondents in the form of a semi-structured interview. Voice preparation of preschool children

The bachelor thesis focuses on the voice preparation of children in kindergarten. The thesis is conceived as action research. The theoretical part will describe what the human voice is and how it works. I will describe there how to work with the voice in kindergartens. Voice disorders can also occur in children of this age. Therefore, in this section we will find listed and posible voice disorders, how to recognize then and how to prevent them. The practical part of the bachelor thesis will be devoted to the action research itself. Six voice moments for preschool children will be designed, their effectiveness will be practically tested and evaluated. Each of the six moments will also include my hypotheses, which will later be confirmed or refuted. At the end of the work the proposed voice moments and their usability in kindergarten will be evaluated. All goals and hypotheses that will be set in the practical part will be evaluated.

The character of the thesis is mostly theoretical and the thesis is divided into four general parts. The first one elaborates the anatomy and physiology of the vocal tract as a basis for understanding mechanisms of voice pathology development, the second one is devoted to voice disorders and their categorization, and the third part deals with their therapy, as the czech literature reflects it. The last part of this thesis is dedicated to voice disorders therapy in the United States with a practical focus on therapeutical program Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) widely used abroad during the treatment of voice disorders especially connected to Parkinson disease. The program is considered to be very effective and it is really popular outside of the Czech republic. LSVT is not well known in the Czech republic yet and there is actually only limited information devoted to this type of voice therapy. Hygiene of voice in teaching

The present bachelor thesis deals with vocal hygiene in the teaching profession. It consists of two parts the theoretical one and the practical one. The theoretical part is focused on the voice production and physiology of the vocal tract. It also pursues voice properties, problems and disorders. An important chapter of the thesis is dedicated to taking care of the vocal cords. In the teaching profession, the voice is a key communication tool. Therefore, it is substantial to follow not only proper vocal hygiene but also proper vocal techniques as teachers are at the same time models for the learners. In the practical part, the author analysed a questionnaire by means of which she inquired teachers' awareness related to vocal hygiene.
Vocal hygiene of educator of leisure time

In this bachelor thesis I present the concept of voice hygiene in the profession of leisure time educator, inform about the physiological construction of voice, its creation, disorders and I also describe methods preventing these disorders. The goal is to describe the concept of voice hygiene and clarify the possible prevention of voice disorders, as the leisure time educator's speech must be exemplary for his pupils. The practical part deals with the research of awareness about these issues among leisure time educators.
